Bat Echolocation Archives  

Contrary to popular belief, bats are not blind.  Because they are nocturnal, they don't rely on their eyesight to navigate.  Instead, they use echolocation.  Bats use sound to find their food and navigate in the dark. They send out high frequency clicks and listen for the echoes to locate their prey. These bat sounds are too high for humans to hear, so scientists use bat detectors to transpose the clicks to a lower frequency.  Examples include...
